We have some excellent solutions that we’d like to share with you today. If you implement these strategies, you’ll find it easier to avoid being robbed unexpectedly when nobody’s around.
With that said, please keep reading to discover our foolproof strategies to help you avoid being burglarized when least expected.
Tip #1: Make Sure the Rehab Property Is Always Locked up When No One’s Around
Just because nobody’s moved in yet doesn’t mean you should forget to lock up after a long day of work while fixing up the place. You’d be surprised how many people fail to lock their rehab property up thoroughly when the day is done. This is going to invite burglars into the home to steal whatever is on hand. And that is obviously something you’d rather avoid at all costs.
So, after a long day at work rehabbing the property, remember to lock up thoroughly in the following areas:
- all fences around the property
- all windows inside the house and the garage
- all garage doors and doors leading inside and out of the house
- all gates leading into an out of your front or backyard
If you take a moment to lock up during the day or at night after you’ve finished working on your rehab, you’ll find it much easier to avoid being burglarized in the future. You’ve spent a lot of money fixing up the place and putting in all new appliances, so it would be a shame to see all of this money and work go to waste due to something silly like failing to lock up when you leave the premises for the day.

Tip #2: Keep Tools and Other Expensive Things Out Of Your Yard
It’s great to own property and have additional places to store your stuff. But leaving the stuff lying around your yard is only going to invite burglars and criminals to rob your place. And obviously you’d rather avoid this situation at all costs.
So take a look around your backyard or front yard and see what you’ve left behind. Do you have any tools on the side of the house or in the backyard? How about lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, and other lawn related equipment?
If you answered yes to any of the questions above, you have to do something about this stuff right away. Otherwise if burglars are in the neighborhood they’re going to look in your backyard and notice a feast of stuff that they can easily get their hands on.
If you don’t have one already, you could always store your stuff in a shed in your backyard. Either build one from the ground up or install a prefabricated shed that you can lock up whenever you aren’t around. Just make sure it’s heavy-duty enough so that it’s not too easy to break into.
Or, you have the option to bring the stuff into your garage. Make sure all of your tools and equipment is properly stored and locked in your garage at all times. And make sure nobody can easily see them either. Because they might try to break your window or break into your garage when they know no one is living in the rehab property at the time.

Tip #3: Install a Security System
Finally, you should absolutely install a security system at your rehab property if you fear theft is a real possibility. By having a system in place, you’ll have the added security knowing that your property is protected when you aren’t there.
Most security systems today connect to local law enforcement. So if someone enters into your rehab property uninvited, the local authorities will be notified from your alarm company as soon as the criminal trips the alarm.
As you can see, it’s easy for burglars to steal stuff from your rehab properties if you aren’t careful. So pay attention to the tips shared today and remember to use them to prevent theft at every turn. You’ll be glad you took these extra precautions to secure your property and keep it safe and sound.
